Three teams were a perfect 8-0 as the German League headed into the month of May. The defending champion Regensburg Buchbinder Legionaere swept their two-game series with the Manheim Tornados to hold onto their two-game lead over the 6-2 Heidenheim Heidekoepfe in the Bundesliga’s South Division.
Regensburg needed a walk-off RBI single from Matt Vance in the tenth inning to win the series opener, 6-5. One day later, the Legionaere rolled out to an 8-0 lead by the third inning and went on to defeat Manheim, 10-3. The Tornados are in a virtual tie for third place in the German League South with a 4-4 record, sharing third with the 5-5 Saarlouis Hornets.
In the North, the Paderborn Untouchables swept a doubleheader from the Bonn Capitals to pull into a first-place tie with the Solingen Alligators, who had the weekend off. Paderborn rocked Bonn, 14-0, in the opener before trashing the Capitals again, 12-1, in the nightcap as both games were shortened by the ten-run mercy rule.
