HOFFMAN SAVES MILWAUKEE WIN OVER HOUSTON

After missing most of April with a ribcage injury, Milwaukee reliever Trevor Hoffman is back in the Brewers bullpen, and the National League Central Division leaders have benefitted. Hoffman tossed his sixth consecutive 1-2-3 inning Tuesday night in Milwaukee’s 4-2 win over Houston at Miller Park, giving the Brewers their seventh straight win and 21st in their past 26 outings.

Hoffman, who came to Wisconsin from San Diego in the offseason, is 10-for-10 in save opportunities this year. He has retired 19 consecutive batters and 23 of the past 24 hitters he’s faced since April 30. His May 19 save against Houston preserved the win for Dave Bush, who is now 3-0.

The Brewers are 25-15 and lead the NL Central by two games over 23-17 St. Louis. In the East, Philadelphia is on top at 22-17 despite losing 12 of 20 home games. The Los Angeles Dodgers have baseball’s best record at 29-13, well ahead of 19-20 San Francisco in the NL West table.
