AMSTERDAM WINS SERIES, HOLDS LEAD IN DUTCH MAJORS

The Amsterdam Pirates took two out of three games in their series last week with Mr. Crocker HCAW, and hold a 3.5-game lead over DOOR Neptunus and the Konica Minolta Pioniers in Dutch Major League baseball. The Pirates are 17-4, while both Konica Minolta and Neptunus are 12-6-1.

Amsterdam and Mr. Crocker were tied at one game apiece in their series before the Pirates won the rubber match, 7-2, last Sunday. The Pirates registered a 7-5 win in the opener as leadoff hitter Wesley Connor racked up five hits. Mr. Crocker’s Joey Eijpe won a 3-2 pitcher’s duel against Amsterdam’s Adam Blackley in Game 2, setting up the series finale one day later.

Konica Minolta didn’t fare nearly as well in the series with Corendon Kinheim, losing three in a row to last year’s second-place team. Corendon won the opener, 4-2, as Dave Bergman allowed two runs on two hits in seven innings and swamped the Pioniers, 13-3, in the second game before completing the sweep with a 7-1 win last Sunday. Ryan Murphy tossed a complete-game two-hitter and hit a three-run homer for Corendon.

DOOR Neptunus moved into a tie for second with Konica Minolta by taking three in a row from MediaMonks RCH by an average score of 11-2, including a 14-0 shutout shortened by the mercy rule.
