AMSTERDAM SWEEPS NEPTUNUS TO STAY ON TOP OF DUTCH LEAGUE

The defending Dutch Major League champion Amsterdam Pirates swept a three-game series against DOOR Neptunus last weekend to maintain their leadership of the Hoofdklasse standings. The Pirates opened with a 9-6 win as Kenny Berkenbosch and Pavel van Zaane combined for seven hits and four runs. Australian pitcher Adam Blackley allowed just one earned run over six innings to help Amsterdam to a 4-2 win in the second game, and the Pirates made it a clean sweep with a 5-4 win on May 10 with van Zaane going 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Amsterdam is now 13-2 for the year.

Neptunus started the weekend one game out of first and ended in third place after being passed by the Konica Minolta Pioniers, who took all three games of their series with the last place MediaMonks RCH. The Pioniers cruised to a 14-0 pounding of MediaMonks in the opener as starter Ryan Murphy pitched seven scoreless innings and helped his own cause at the plate with three RBIs. Konica Minolta won the next two games by identical 6-5 scores to stretch their winning streak to five games while bringing their season record to 10-3-1, two games ahead of 8-5-1 Neptunus.
