The defending German Baseball League champion Regensburg Buchbinder Legionaere have picked up where they left off in 2008, snapping up a pair of wins last weekend against the Saarlouis Hornets to stretch their perfect record to 16-0 in the current Bundesliga season. Needless to say, Regensburg is on top of the German League’s South Division standings.
Mike Heaney’s bases-loaded triple in the top of the ninth gave the Legionaere a 7-6 come-from-behind win in the May 22 opener. Whitney Pierce cracked a two-run homer for Regensburg in the game, while Ludwig Glaser homered and drove in four runs for the Hornets.
One day later, it was all Eddie Aucoin, who tossed the first no-hitter of the German season for Regensburg in a 5-0 whitewashing. Aucoin struck out nine and walked none, but hit two Saarlouis batters en route to the first no-no since Solingen’s Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez threw one last year.
Speaking of Marquez-Ramirez, he threw an 11-strikeout shutout for Solingen on May 24 against the Dortmund Wanderers. The Alligators gave Marquez-Ramirez more than enough support with seven third-inning runs as Solingen ran their North Division-leading record to 16-2.
