While it’s never a good idea to take your eyes off the Antwerp Royal Greys if you’re a Belgian baseball fan, the Namur Angels and Hoboken Pioneers are doing a good job of taking attention away from the defending champions.
Although Antwerp is a reasonably solid third in the Belgian League standings at 7-4 after a somewhat indifferent start, it’s Namur and Hoboken who are threatening to pull away from the rest of the eight-team pack. Namur took 15-2 and 13-5 wins last weekend over the hapless Brussels Kangaroos to keep their winning streak alive at 10 games, and the Angels now lead the league at 10-1 after losing their opening contest. Hoboken kept pace with a couple of impressive shutout wins over The Merchtem Cats, 6-0 and 10-0, last week. They’ve won five in a row en route to a 9-2 record.
Namur may be on top of the table, but Hoboken is +80 in runs differential to the Angels’ +62.
