Pitcher Hideki Irabu has signed a contract with the Long Beach Armada of the independent Golden Baseball League for 2009. The veteran pitcher joins a starting rotation that includes another former big leaguer, Jose Lima, in Long Beach.
Irabu pitched three seasons for the New York Yankees, turning in a 13-9 record in 1998, before moving on to the Montreal Expos and Texas Rangers. Following his final MLB season with the Rangers, the right-hander pitched two years for Japan’s Hanshin Tigers before his initial retirement.
