The German Baseball League got its 2009 season started earlier this month, and both regular season divisional champions recorded two-game sweeps in their respective inaugural series.
Defending North Division winners Solingen Alligators won a pair of games from the HSV Stealers. Solingen won the April 4 opener, 14-7, despite being outhit 16-11 by the Stealers. Dominik Wolf cracked a homer for the Alligators as Jens Cornelsen pitched five scoreless innings for the win. Solingen dominated the second game, registering an 8-0 shutout. Starter Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez and two relievers combined on a one-hitter for the Gators.
Last year’s South Division champion Heidenheim Heidekoepfe won two against the Haar Disciples. Heidenheim won the opener, 11-5, as starter Markus Winkler let in three runs over six innings. Ryan Lilly homered, scored twice and drove in two runs as Heidenheim won, 6-3, on April 5.
