BARCELONA FORFEITS TWO GAMES AFTER NOT BOOKING FLIGHT FOR ROAD TRIP

Usually when a team in any sport has a road series against the defending league champion, there are certain things they need to do before leaving home…Like buy airplane tickets. Apparently, that’s not how they do things in Barcelona.

Heading into last weekend, Barcelona’s Spanish League team was 5-0 going into their series in the Canary Islands against the 6-0 Puerto Cruz Marlins. However, nobody from Barcelona bothered to book a flight for the team, and the result was a double forfeit of the two scheduled games to Puerto Cruz. Barcelona was expected to file an appeal with the Spanish Baseball and Softball Federation, which ruled the team had plenty of time to plan the trip, including contacting the airlines.

Puerto Cruz is now 8-0, second-place Sant Boi is 7-1, and Barcelona is 5-2 and in dire need of a 2009 calendar. On a positive note, they didn’t have to pay for in-flight peanuts or soda pop.
