BOLOGNA, RIMINI DEAD EVEN IN ITALIAN TABLES

Fortitudo Bologna stretched their Italian League Serie A1 winning streak to seven games last weekend to go to 26-10 for the season, good enough for a first-place tie with Telemarket Rimini. Bologna completed a three-game sweep of De Angelis GODO last Sunday with a 10-1 win. Richard Austin crashed a grand slam homer for Bologna, who scored 29 runs in the series. Claudio Liverziani also homered and reached base five times, while Eddy Garabito was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three more driven in for Bologna. De Angelis is in last place in Italy with a 7-29 record, and are on an eight-game losing streak.

Rimini lost the opener of their series with seventh-place Palfinger Reggio Emilia, but bounced back to win the final two to avoid slipping into second place. Telemarket won the rubber match last Sunday, 9-4, as Rimini starter Sandy Patrone gave up one run in seven innings while striking out seven batters. Rimini is now 26-10, while Palfinger is 8-28.
